It is better to wear a more formfitting top because it will make you feel comfort and you will not have the problem of sliding down your top. A regular pair of exercise shorts or pants will do fine. Not to wear anything slick as some of the yoga poses could make you slip.

Shoes

Shoes are not compulsory for yoga classes. It will be the best whenever you are going to yoga class after work, as there will be no necessity for you to carry heavy athletic shoes. It is an optional thing to use socks or soft shoes for practicing yoga because traditionally it is practiced barefoot. In most classes, the yoga instructor may allow you to practice yoga with out wearing shoes.

Yoga Mats

Another one of the yoga equipments is yoga mats. They are useful both in gyms and in yoga classes. Using a mat for yoga practice is very common but when you are just starting, you may have to wait to buy your own.

Most classes will provide mats or will rent mats. The only disadvantage is that you can get smelly between the washes as many people can use the mats.

Some of the yoga equipments are optional. It also depends upon the type of yoga you are practicing. If you are following Iyengar style of yoga, then the props are generally used in order to keep the correct pose. They assist you to keep your body in alignment and also help you obtain the most out of your exercises.

Yoga Equipments - Yoga Blankets

Yoga Blankets are often used in certain poses and are useful when practicing the sitting positions or poses. They are also useful when you are in the cool down, relaxation period at the end of your practice.

Yoga Blocks

Yoga Blocks are similar to blankets and used as supports in order to improve your position and also makes it more comfortable for your body. They are great when practicing the standing poses where your hands or fingers are supposed to touch the floor and they do not fairly make it. Yoga blocks help you get the best results out of your yoga practice.

Yoga Straps

Yoga Straps, different yoga equipment, are useful for yoga poses where your hands have to meet, and also for postures that you need to hold on to your feet.

The above things are just props and there is no need of buying these yoga equipments unless you find that there is a need of them for your yoga practice at-home. Most of the yoga classes will provide these props.

Starting yoga and practicing it can be done on a little budget, whether you go to a yoga class or you practice yoga with the help of a video at your home. Just remember, the only things that you need for a regular yoga practice would be comfortable, breathable clothes, a top that is formfitting, regular exercise shorts, and no shoes.

Apart from these, you need to empty your stomach and make your nostrils dirt free and clean your throat before you start your yoga practice. It is better to start yoga practice with an empty stomach and also drink warm water 15 minutes before you start the yoga practice.

It will be fine if you try your yoga routine with just a folded blanket instead of a mat whenever you are practicing your routine at home.

Basically you don’t require all the above things for yoga practice. All you need is the desire and the attitude towards yoga and expanding your self-awareness. However this will not entirely eliminate the need for different yoga equipments.

The yoga equipments that you make use for yoga practice will assist you in doing your postures correctly. They support your muscles from getting any injury when performing some difficult yoga poses.

Yoga has been booming in popularity for years now. Offering a way to connect with yourself through exercise and relaxation. However, if you are new to the world of yoga it can get confusing. While many instructors will give you a list of what you will need, and what to expect. Some might not, which will still leave you with the question; what exactly do you need to practice yoga?

Well, with this yoga essentials checklist you no longer have to worry. Simply print it out, and bring it along on your yoga shopping spree. If you'd like to make it an even easier shopping trip, look around the store. There is everything that is a must-have with yoga, and many more accessories that will help to make it much easier.

* First and foremost you need to get at least a couple yoga outfits. While it is a common misconception, that normal workout wear is fine. They can often times be too cumbersome and loose to practice yoga, without having to worry about adjusting your clothes. Most yoga workout wear is snug-fitting, and meant to help you achieve inner peace without worrying about your clothes.

There are shorts, tops, pants, and even capris that are produced for yoga. Giving you a wide variety of clothing to choose from. The one key to selecting the perfect yoga outfit, is by keeping the weather in mind. Chances are, if it is snowing outside you don't want to be caught wearing shorts. However, yoga pants will last throughout the year.

* Second, you have your yoga mat. Whether it is a tai inspired mat or your standard issued yoga mat. They can be found almost anywhere these days, and are affordable for any budget. Some yoga mats have even been made to be somewhat sticky, which will keep the risk of slipping at a minimum. Try going organic! One of the major players in yoga, is living with the world. Giving you more reason to go green.

* The third essential item you must have for yoga, is a few props. Depending on what your instructor plans for the day. It wouldn't be wise to be caught unprepared. From bolsters to meditation stands, there are a lot of props and accessories that are essential for yoga classes. They can be found almost anywhere, from online yoga specialty shops like this one to local shops. However, be mindful of quality. Chances are, if it is too cheaply priced you aren't going to get the amount of use out of them that you'd want.

* The fourth essential yoga item is the yoga bag. Giving you the ability to keep all of your yoga essentials in check. There is nothing worse, than your yoga mat falling into a pile of mud before your lesson. Keep them all in one snug place, all with a little additional style.

* Meditation cushions, while an accessory can help with your yoga practices. Giving you the ability to attune yourself from within. There is nothing worse than a sore bottom on the floor, when you are trying to reach inner peace.

* Yoga dvds to keep your lessons going. Can't make your appointment this week for yoga class? No problem! You've got a couple yoga dvds meant to keep you in the yoga mind set. They are essential for any yoga practitioner, especially those who are short on time.

* Foam blocks, while they would be considered props. Are by far one of the highest priority props for yoga. Thus giving them a spot on the essentials checklist. They can be found separately, or in yoga essential kits.

* A yoga strap is your friend! They are utilized frequently throughout a yoga class, or at home on your own. Much like the foam blocks, they can be found both in a kit or stand alone.

* The yoga ball and hand pump. While they can be found separately, they usually come as a pair. It will give you a leg-up at your class, when you come prepared with these two fantastic yoga essentials.

There are countless amounts of yoga items available. Which means that we have only begun to touch the basics on the yoga essentials checklist. There will always be something that you need or want with yoga lessons. Whether it be on the list or not, it is always a good idea to ask your instructor if you aren't sure what you will need. Chances are, they will have an in-depth list of anything they require. Which will give you the ability to purchase your own, rather than utilizing their hand-outs.

Remember with all yoga items, you should try to go green. Many companies such as this one, will offer both an organic and non-organic version of all of these must-haves. Which will help you to keep our earth clean of chemicals, without having to skip a beat in your yoga lessons. Last but not least, the most essential yoga item is yourself. Keeping your body clean and free of chemicals and in tip-top shape, is by far the most important thing for yoga.

The three popular types of yoga you may have heard of are hatha yoga, power yoga and bikram yoga. Hatha yoga is the style of yoga most practiced today. It is what you will think of when you think of yoga in general. Power yoga is a more aerobic-style yoga, with an emphasis on cardio. Bikram yoga is a style of yoga performed in a heated room to accelerate detoxification. Universal Yoga sells everything you need to practice these and other forms of yoga, pilates and meditation including yoga pants, yoga mats, athletic apparel, yoga blankets, yoga music, meditation accessories, uplifting apparel and yoga gear.

The four questions you must ask your yoga teacher

Are you qualified? Make sure that your teacher has a current qualification, and is registered with the Yoga Alliance, Independent Yoga Network or the British Wheel of Yoga. This may seem obvious, but some teachers out there have bogus qualifications. Also ask if they do regular training to keep their yoga education up to date. Good yoga teachers will do a couple of continued training courses a year to keep their knowledge current.

Is there an emphasis on safety? Safety is crucial - many people get injured every year from over stretching when they haven't adequately prepared. Does your teacher offer modifications and contra-indications to each posture? Do they do enough warm-ups and cool-downs? Is there an adequate period of relaxation at the end of the class?

Does your teacher walk their talk? Yoga is more than an occasional hobby. It's a way to unite body, mind and soul. To be a good yoga teacher, daily practice is crucial - your teacher should enjoy what they teach - or else you won't! They should also be approachable and get on well with their students. In the ancient tradition of yoga, the relationship between teacher and student was one of the most important - and it's true today as well.

Is the class conveniently located? If you're going to get to your class, rain or shine, then choose a location that's realistic. I've seen so many students attending classes enthusiastically at the beginning of September, only to decide that it's just too far when the cold, dark nights set in.

To conclude, I suggest that you try different styles of yoga until you find one that suits you. The benefits of attending a regular class are enormous - for example:

'I've lost over a stone in the last 6 weeks through doing Dru Yoga. I do the flowing, graceful Sun Sequence at a Dru Yoga class and at home, and it seems to balance my body and take away the edge of my hunger. When I do Dru Yoga I can feel my body's natural intelligence kicking in.' Helena Davey, Lecturer, North Wales.

Beginners Guide To Yoga : Part 1 What Is Yoga

Yoga is extensively known as a form of exercise that stretches and strengthens the body through various poses known as ASANAS. For other people yoga is the realization of inner self satisfaction. For other it is a religion that the believe and must follow.

All of this statement makes it hard to really make a full realization of what yoga is.

So what is yoga?

Yoga goes far beyond just mere exercises full of awkward routines. Yoga is the union of mind, spirit and body. Yoga comes from the Hindu philosophy used to attain spiritual insight and harmony.

What is yoga? Yoga generally refers to the common use of a system of exercises that is practiced as part of this discipline.

The word is derived from the Sanskrit “yeung”, which means to join. A yoke as used on oxen is closely related, but also the same root gives us "join", "junction", "junta","adjust", "joust", and "juxapose" to name a few.

There are many institutions of yoga all of which have their own unique practices and beliefs. But in this article we have listed down the five most common yoga practices.

However, schools and paths have been established with many different variations that aren't listed here.

HATHA: this is the most popular variety of yoga and one that has been commonly taught for years. So what is yoga for them? For them it is perfecting the mind by way of perfecting the body.

With this technique many asanas or postures, breathing techniques and meditations are used.

ASHTANGA: this yoga is another popular type they are much faster than the other schools. What is yoga for ashtanga’s?

For them yoga can be considered as a type of aerobic yoga for they instill quick and smooth transitions between poses.

KUNDALINI: This school is focused on awakening and focusing what is known as kundalini energy. Kundalini energy is most easily compared to life energy that lies dormant in our bodies. It is commonly represented by a coiled snake.

MANTRA: this type of yoga is focused on calming the mind and body through the usage of words and sounds. The well known 'om' chant is commonly heard in this school.

TANTRA: This type of school is well known by way of its focus on sexual spirituality. They also focus on kundalini energy, although their intent for awakening it is much different from the Kundalini practice.

Yoga is a very diverse practice, no matter which school you choose. People young and old can gain many benefits from regular yoga practices, and asanas can be adjusted to fit physical limitations and other complications.

If you want a break from treadmills, weight rooms, or the pool, take a look at yoga. Not only are you striving towards physical well being, you are striving towards spiritual well being as well.

Traditionally, yoga consists of eight fundamental paths: Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Purna Yoga, Tantra Yoga, Maha Yoga and Ashtanga or Raja Yoga. In the western world, the term yoga often refers to Hatha yoga and its postures, movements, and breathing techniques.

The ultimate goal of yoga is the attainment of liberation from worldly suffering and the cycle of birth and death. Yoga entails mastery over the body, mind, and emotional self, and transcendence of desire. It is said to lead gradually to knowledge of the true nature of reality.

It serves to unite the body; mind and spirit into a single powerful consciousness that helps you achieve an active lifestyle among many other benefits.

Yoga Benefits

There are six different kinds of Yoga each with its unique set of benefits:

Hatha Yoga: Ideal for beginners, Hatha Yoga is also called the Yoga of postures. It includes pranayam or breathing techniques, meditation as well as different levels of Asanas as they are referred to. It includes various sub styles which include Iyengar, Ashtanga, Jiva Mukti and Kripalu, each being the same with different interpretations. This is also the best yoga for health.

Bhakti Yoga: This form of yoga is meant for people who are looking for a path to god. Also called the Yoga of devotion, it is commonly practiced amongst 'yogis' in India and its goals are spiritual and not fitness.

Raja Yoga: Also called the yoga of self control, Raja Yoga is the yoga that is based on the teachings of the Eight Limbs of Yoga and is ideal for building discipline of the mind.

Jnana Yoga: This form of yoga is centered on a man's intelligence and is also called yoga of the mind. It gives utmost importance to learning and wisdom and not so much to physical aspects.

Karma Yoga: Karma means service and Karma Yogis work towards a better tomorrow by doing good actions. This form of yoga teaches you to perform selfless service during your lifetime.

Tantra Yoga: This form of yoga is often misinterpreted as a form of sex and is much in demand. Unfortunately sex is only a small part of this yoga of rituals which is really about sacred experiences.

Each form of yoga's benefits depends on what you are looking to achieve. It is important to find a guru well versed in the kind of yoga that you want to learn. There are many commercial courses available for Hatha Yoga but for the rest, yogis are more difficult to find. Yoga has become a lifestyle statement amongst celebrities who swear by its benefits. The truth is that yoga has a very special place in today's stressful existence. In the modern day pressures, it is easy to lose oneself and succumb to depression. Yoga is a form of holistic healing that helps you become stronger in mind and body from within. Yoga benefits also include a fitter and more flexible body which helps you lead a more active and enriched life.

It is important to read up on the kind of yoga that you want to learn before embarking on this journey. For many, yoga is about weight loss while for many others, it's just the latest trend. Unless your reasons for learning or following the path of yoga are honest, it will be difficult to reap the complete yoga benefits.

Yoga For Beginners - 7 Most Common Reasons Why You Must Start Yoga

Have you noticed the growing trend of people who practice yoga? Maybe you have thought about taking a yoga class but have reservations about the benefits of practicing?

There are many reasons why you may think about starting yoga. From my experience as a Sivananda Yoga Teacher and based on talking with my yoga students here are seven common reasons why you may want to start to learn yoga. Maybe one of these reasons applies to you.

Seven Most Common Reasons Why You Start Yoga

1. Yoga for Stress Relief.

A gentle yoga practice at the end of a stressful day is the ideal way to unwind and relieve tension from your body. This has to be the most popular reason why you start yoga. You're life is busy and full of conflicting demands. The constant hustle and bustle of modern day life means you have trouble switching off and relaxing. The essence of yoga is to encourage you to relax, take time out of your busy schedule and be present and focus on your breath. This instantly calms your mind and relaxes your body.

2. Yoga for Back Pain Relief
Have you ever suffered back pain or experienced sore, tense muscles? Yoga exercises are designed to gently stretch your muscles, increase the range of flexibility in your joints and bring suppleness to your spine. For example, yoga poses, such as the cobra, the locust or seated forward bend, all help to soothe your aching back.

3. Yoga for Inner Peace and Calm
If you are going through an emotional crisis or recovering from a severe illness, chances are you feel unhappy and unsettled about your situation. When you feel unhappy or down, your mind is agitated and it takes longer for the body to heal. Yoga breathing exercises and meditation practices help to promote a sense of ease and calm within the body and mind.

4. Yoga for Weight Loss
Yoga is the ideal exercise to encourage you to lose weight and develop positive eating habits. Yoga philosophy promotes a vegetarian diet based on natural, unprocessed foods.

In addition, yoga encourages you to be conscious of how you eat. Prior to eating, you bless your food and Give Thanks to the hands and souls who worked to grow your food and deliver it to your local supermarket. This sense of reverence and respect for what you eat and how you eat means you take time to select foods which nurture and nourish your body. Instead of mindlessly eating foods, on -the-go, or in front of the TV, from a yogic perspective, you consciously chew each morsel, the more you chew and take time to enjoy and digest your food, and the deeper is your sense of fulfilment from eating.

5. Yoga for Personal Development
Underpinning the physical aspects of yoga is a philosophy and way of living your life which guides you towards enlightenment. The ultimate goal of yoga is to unite with the divine and live a life of harmony and inner calm. The Yoga Sutras offers you a broad range of ethical and practical guidelines to living a healthy harmonious life. Many students gain inner strength, clarity and awareness of themselves through studying The Yoga Sutras

6. Yoga for Energy
Have you ever felt tired and zapped of energy? Yoga exercises can be used to stimulate and energise your mind and body. Blocked energy is released through the chakras, which correspond to key nerve centres or plexuses in the body. As the blocked energy is released you feel energised and revitalised.

7. Yoga for Health
Yoga offers you a truly holistic way of living your life. The physical postures promote a strong and healthy body, the philosophical guidelines offer you a simple natural way to experience life, meditation practices and breathing exercises all promote vitality and ease and comfort within your body.

As you can see, there are many reasons why you may consider practicing yoga. All reasons are valid. If you are thinking of starting yoga, take your time to find a qualified yoga teacher and enjoy your yoga journey.

Seven Reasons To Choose Yoga For A Better Body And A Calmer Mind

Yoga has been around for centuries. Embraced equally by film stars, rock stars, high powered CEOs and New Age gurus, yoga’s stress-relieving, strength-building, low impact poses appeal to a wide range of individuals and body shapes. Even beginners can see and feel a difference after just a few short weeks of practice. All arguments aside, yoga works. So why haven’t you tried it? Here are seven really good reasons why you should:

7.) Symptom Relief - Several scientific studies have proven that yoga practice can greatly reduce the frequency and duration of asthma attacks, as well as the amount of medication needed to control or prevent attacks. Yogic breathing, pranayama , helps to strengthen the lungs and build breath control while back-bending poses open the chest and help increase air flow. Carpal tunnel syndrome can be alleviated with certain yoga poses. The lengthening and strengthening of the tendons offered in many yoga poses aids in relieving the pain, and in restoring the grip. The slow, low-impact nature of yoga exercise lends itself perfectly to arthritis sufferers. Joint pain and swelling can be reduced from the gentle exercise and from the stress relief granted tight, tensed muscles. The stress relieving nature of yoga has been shown to reduce the severity and frequency of headaches for migraine sufferers, as well.

6.) Disease Prevention – The stress relief offered through yoga practice can reduce the risk of heart disease, the number one killer of women in the US and Canada. Of further interest to women is yoga’s ability to strengthen and build bone density, preventing osteoporosis. It’s believed that yoga may reduce cortisol, and thereby aid in keeping calcium in your bones. The meditative nature of yoga can help raise levels of GABA in the brain, preventing the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. Lastly, yoga has been known to stimulate the pancreas in its production of insulin, lowering blood sugar levels and helping in the treatment of Type II diabetes.

5.) Good Form of Exercise – Not all forms of exercise are good for all of you. Yoga is low-impact, providing a safer way to stretch and strengthen. Yoga is non-competitive, allowing you a stress-free, introspective work-out. Yoga can be practiced indoors or out, so that it fits in with all climates and lifestyles. Beneficial yoga practice can be completed in as little as 10 minutes a day, making it the ideal exercise routine for today’s busy, on-the-go world. Yoga builds balanced muscle tone, strengthens the body’s core, and improves dexterity, hand-eye coordination and reaction time. It has also been clinically proven to increase joint range of motion and flexibility.

4.) Improved Body Chemistry – Yoga can have drastically good effects on your body’s inner workings. The increase in movement and blood flow offered in yoga practice can lower cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood stream. It is believed that yoga actually increases the amount of red blood cells in your blood, providing better oxygenation of the body, as well as increasing energy and reducing the risks of anemia. The lymphatic and endocrine systems also get a boost from yoga. The lymphatic system boosts immunity and raises your body’s disease fighting ability, while the endocrine system regulates hormones, and through yoga, both systems help increase the overall health and balance of your body.

3.) The Inner You – Much has been made of yoga’s effects on the psychological and emotional health of its practitioners. Yoga reduces stress through its slow movements and controlled breathing. It elevates and regulates your mood with its mind-body consciousness, its ability to improve your health overall, and its introspective nature. The attention required in yoga causes one to focus inwardly, reducing stress and anxiety, building a sense of calmness, alertness and even improving your memory.

2.) The Overall Inner You – Let’s recap a bit here. Yoga reduces stress, which lowers blood pressure. It stimulates your endocrine system, balancing hormone levels and lowering blood sugar. It helps increase the overall functioning and health of your circulatory and respiratory system. It lowers your heart rate. It raises your tolerance to pain. It relives certain chronic problems. It improves brain chemistry. Your internal organs receive a “yoga massage,” improving their functioning and disease fighting abilities. Your gastrointestinal health improves. Overall, there isn’t a body system not impacted positively by regular yoga practice.

1.) The Outer You – After examining all the things that yoga can do for the inside of you, let’s see what yoga can do for you that you can actually see. Yoga can reduce the signs of aging through its detoxification of the body. Increased blood flow and oxygenation can also improve skin tone and color. Yoga helps to induce better sleep, improving overall health, awareness and skin and muscle tone. Yoga poses build strength, lengthen muscles and get the body moving, all of which cause a reduction in weight, prevent cellulite from forming and improve posture. Lastly, yoga can boost your energy, and not just your everyday, running hither and thither and yon type energy. Yoga has been proven to improve your energy and performance in the bedroom, as well. You look better, you feel better, your body is more in tune with itself and you with it - all of which leads to an increased confidence that can’t be kept all to yourself.

Yoga may not be the cure of all ills, but it certainly can improve many. It’s an overall workout – inside as well as outside – that shows in your face, your eyes, the way you stand, the way you move, the way you live. What are you waiting for? Give yoga a try today!

How Yoga Can Strengthen Your Body And Soul

Yoga is best known as a type of exercise system that stretches and strengthens the body through various poses known as asanas. But yoga goes far beyond just a mere exercise routine. Yoga is also about healthy living, which includes a healthy diet. That doesn't mean you have to become a vegetarian, just that you should be conscious of the foods you eat, sticking with natural, fresh fruits and vegetables, grains, etc. Yoga is a great way to support you body and the newly forming body of your child. There are some precautions however, so you will want to let your doctor and your teacher know that you are pregnant.

Yoga is suitable for most adults of any age or physical condition. Because of the nonstrenuous nature of our approach to exercise, even those with physical limitations can find a beneficial routine of Yoga. Yoga is not about simply completing a stretch so that you can move on to the next one. It is about being present in the moment. Yoga is less expensive than most other methods of attaining and maintaining health and relaxation.

Yoga is fantastic exercise and if you respect your body and don't over push yourself you can make quick gains in flexibility, strength, stamina and balance. Yoga is a wonderful way to find relief from everyday aches and back pains. And developing such symptoms from working out is quite different from the discomfort that results from sitting at a desk. Yoga is beneficial for the health in ways that modern science is just beginning to understand. Even though it has been applied with therapeutic intention for thousand of years, Yoga Therapy is only just now emerging as a discipline in itself.

Yoga is not a medical practice, but it has been shown to be very helpful in many ways. Yoga is a 5000 year old science whose teachings were first imparted not in a classroom or Gurukul, but on the battle field. In the epic Mahabharata, the sage, Lord Krishna is first said to have imparted the teachings of Yoga to his despondent student Arjuna. Yoga is an effective method to reduce stress and anxiety. See how to get started.

Yoga is a science which is been studies and researched over by many scientists even now. Today the doctors also advise the patients to continue their yoga every day for their well being and fitness. Yoga is no longer a practice just for hippies. Many modern students are affluent, and the consumer data shows they are willing to pay for quality service and added value. Yoga is an ancient, eastern practice meaning union. It teaches us to take responsibility for our own health through the union of postures ( asanas ), breathing ( pranayama ), relaxation and meditation.

Yoga is an age old magical practice that fits this modern day perfectly. Here at Divine Goddess we are very passionate about yoga and the benefits it bestows. Yoga is also considered one of six classical Indic schools of thought (or "darshanas") in and of itself. The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, written between the 1st century and 3rd century A.D., is the scriptural foundation of this school. Yoga is for everyone. It doesn't matter if you can't remember the last time you exercised or even if you believe you can't get back into good shape, lose weight or increase your flexibility.

Yoga is both the system of physical and meditative techniques involved on the journey and a description of the goal. Yoga is especially ideal for people that are overweight, elderly, pregnant, or all three. Yoga also promotes a feeling of clarity and serenity -- there's a reason many people who do yoga seem so relaxed and focused. Yoga is not merely a form of exercise for the body, but a path towards total harmony of body, mind and spirit. It is ancient wisdom for a healthier, happier and more peaceful way of living that ultimately leads to Self-realization, the union with the Self.

Yoga is a way of life as well as a way of moving. Many people think of it as just an extreme exercise but it is a very gentle custom designed for each individual at the exact place that person is at the moment, whether that person is an expert or a beginner. Yoga is not about physical perfection, competition or forcing yourself into painful postures. Nor is it a religion.

Find a Yoga Retreat and Have Healthy Fun

Yoga retreats are offered throughout the year offering classically-based practice, or creatively-explored approaches to all forms of yoga, meditation, self-inquiry, nature and deep silence. This creates an environment for deepening your practice, personal renewal and spiritual reflection. Yoga Retreats to beautiful outdoor locations can give you time to explore beaches, mountains or other landscapes, have massages or just exploring the local culture. Yoga retreats are offered all over the world. Yoga vacations and retreats are an uplifting journey into self.

Fun Retreats

These are also casual, fun yoga retreats where all ages and levels can participate. Some Retreats are dedicated to promoting the authentic spiritual tradition of Yoga in a spectacular environment. There are a huge number of yoga retreats available in a number of wonderful and powerful locations. I highly recommend a retreat for spiritual seekers of all levels, or for people just looking for a time of inner peace in a beautiful outdoor setting for a few days. Caribbean retreats are even available. Most will offer you itineraries with two yoga classes daily, some time for meditation, guided and even let you choose personal hiking and lots of free time to explore and connect with nature. They also usually feature sumptuous organic foods. Unique yoga retreats provide a wide array of yoga experiences in combination with just about any type of diverse and complimentary activity you would want.

Teacher Retreats

I believe that attending a yoga retreat is essential if you are to grow as a teacher and become a teacher who can communicate with all levels of students. They will let you touch base with your inner self, practice daily meditation and yoga, and find excellent treatments. You can learn all about yoga retreats from your yoga teacher, magazines, friends and by looking up retreats that may interest you online. Many people are drawn to yoga retreats like this because they offer the chance to combine a great vacation with another activity that they love: yoga.

Yoga Retreat

Retreats are a wonderful way to give yourself a well deserved vacation, meet new friends and try something new. The retreats and the fantastic people met are special and there are opportunities to connect and create long lasting friendships. When you attend a Yoga Retreat it's an opportunity to reflect and re-evaluate your entire life from a much different different perspective. A lot more than a pamper or health holiday, the retreat offers a potentially life-changing experience. At times the retreat is a journey to the heart, and yet at other times it's an experience of freedom and inner joy, or a sense of connectedness. The effects can often be felt for weeks after the retreat is over and this can create a great opportunity for one huge life changing experience.

Yoga Retreat Activities

Yoga and meditation is usually offered daily (for example from 7am-9am), pranayama, chanting, relaxation and pilates and various activities and other rituals throughout the day, of course this all varies based on which retreat you choose, so make sure that you find one with a good balance of activities that interest you. The outcome is usually an incredible amount of time for you to relax and rejuvenate. Some even offer a chance to nurture the body and release unwanted tension including excellent on site massage, or an opportunity to cleanse the entire body of toxins which may build up from a poor diet, or lack of exercise.

Advantages of Yoga Retreats

A retreat is often a time to disconnect from the entire outer world, and to re-connect with your own inner soul. It's an excellent chance to have a yoga experience and to immerse yourself in practice in a supportive and healing environment all at the same time. Yoga holidays are also available: giving you an ability to take a vacation and experience a yoga retreat during busy holiday times - this is especially helpful for singles or others who may not have a close family to enjoy the holidays with. Many times a retreat is designed for you to find rest, relaxation, and a place for reflection and growth in a natural environment. Some companies even offer customized personal retreats that will let you fit it to your own schedule. A yoga vacation, holiday, getaway or retreat offers the ultimate opportunity for a healthy, fun and fantastic adventure to exotic places, or interesting places close to home.

Doing Yoga Positions With the Help of a Yoga Mat

There are many yoga positions in the eight limbs of yoga. The most popular in these eight styles is the Hatha yoga. However, before you start with all the bending ensure that you are wearing the right clothes that will allow you to perform various positions. In addition, it is also advisable to use a yoga mat. This is to avoid accidents and to give you comfort while you are in a yoga pose.

Meditation is the main goal of Hatha yoga positions. To achieve this, you need to relax and free your mind. Now, you might wonder how anybody can be relaxed in such a position. This is because yoga poses allow you to focus your energy in certain chakra points. If you are still having a hard time relaxing in each posture or asana, you can use a yoga mat for added comfort.

Before we continue with the topic, let us take a pause for some reminders from experts in yoga. Professional yoga practitioners always tell us not to take each position as simply an exercise to build up or strengthen body muscles. Exercise is only part of the yoga, its main goal is to achieve overall well being. Prior to the positions that you are going to do, do it on yoga mat for safety reasons.

Now going back to the yoga practice, on your yoga mat, do a little of bending and stretching to warm up your body and loosen up some joints. If you are doing yoga in a class, the instructor, or the guru, already prepared the yoga poses that you are going to do. However, if you are going to do yoga in your home, one recommendable position for you is the savasana or corpse pose.

Savasana is the type of position that involves just lying down on the yoga mat. You can do it in between other yoga poses to relax your whole body and mind. You can also use it to cool down after the exercise. The reason why is it's recommended to people practicing yoga in their homes is because it is not complicated. It does not involve complex bending or twisting that without a proper guidance of a guru could cause some injuries.

Here are some of the commonly used yoga positions. The matsyana or the fish pose, which can relieve the body from tension. The dhanurasana, known as bow pose, which is a great stretching position. Setu bandhasana is for flexible persons and involves a lot of bending. Before trying out some of the yoga position, ensure that your yoga mat is clean from any liquids such as sweat. This is necessary in order for you to achieve the position you are aiming for.

After you are through with the yoga practice, always cool yourself down before beginning any other task. This is to put your muscles back in the relaxed state. As mentioned before, you can do the corpse pose on your yoga mat. This would return your heart rate at a normal level.

Over all, yoga poses are essential in the meditation process. If you are going to practice by yourself, always ensure your safety first. Do not do complex positions if you are not an expert or without the help of guru. Lastly, always use yoga mat to give you a grip of the supporting surface.
