Relax! Twelve Essential Yoga Tips to Help Working Mums Manage Stress

How many times during the day do you hear the words "... "Mum, can I have ...." "Mum, it's not fair" "mum, have you seen my .... Or the classic, "mum, I'm hungry"

It's tough being a working mum. You need super human skills to manage the varied and complex demands of parenting as well as coping with the fast-moving pressures of your job.
Some days, you wake up tried and exhausted from caring for your sick children, other days you go to bed tired and exhausted from rushing home from work to be on time to attend your daughter's Parent-Teacher's Meeting.

In the midst of all this responsibility, caring and sharing, it is very easy to run out of energy and feel emotionally drained and physically shattered.

Twelve Essential Yoga Stress-Management Techniques

In the long-run, to fully care for your family and fulfill your responsibilities at work, it is vital you make time during your day to boost your energy and care for yourself. Failure to do so means you run on "empty" and have little to give to yourself, your family and meet your work commitments. To keep your energy levels up, practice the following yoga exercises, massage tips and breathing practices throughout your day.

1. Hum. Humming in high or low pitch is an excellent way to achieve inner calm and clarity. Find a quiet place, sit comfortably. Breathe in and out, through your nose. If you wish, close your eyes. Place your little fingers in your ears. Take a steady deep breath in through your nose. As you breathe out gently "hum." You can hum in either a high pitch or low pitch. Breathe in and repeat this humming pattern for 3 - 5 more rounds. Release your fingers and sit quietly for a few moments.

2. Pretend to chew a large piece of gum, really chew this piece of gum, stretching your mouth and smacking your lips together. Chew for at least 30 seconds.

3. Massage your cheekbones, forehead and temples with your fingers and thumbs. Be aware of the texture of your skin as your gently massage your eyebrows, bridge of your nose and then walk your fingers around your ears and massage your ears.

4. Take deep breaths regularly through out the day. This will help to nourish and revive your spirit

5. Sit on chair, bend forward and hold your ankles or shins. Arch your back, relax and repeat 3 - 5 times

6. Raise both arms above your head. Place your left hand on your right wrist. Gently stretch to the right. Keep your body strong and straight. Breathe into the stretch. Switch sides and repeat.

7. Sitting on a chair, cross your left leg over your right knee. Place your right hand on the crossed knee. Gently turn your body to the left and look behind you. Allow your shoulders to be relaxed as you relax and breathe into the pose. Inhale. Release your arms and legs; return to centre. Exhale. Switch legs and repeat on the opposite side.

8. Have a loving bath. Add four to six drops of bergamot, lavender, ylang ylang, or rose essential oil to your bathwater. These aromatic oils are uplifting and help to refresh your mind.

9. Massage your shoulders. Squeeze the upper back and shoulders between your thumb and forefingers. Massage slowly and rhythmically.

10. Stand or sit in a comfortable position. Breathe in through your nose and shrug your shoulders up to your ears, slowly breathe out as you lower your shoulders. Repeat 5 - 7 times.

11. Smile and laugh often. Share happy thoughts and jokes with others. Laughter instantly elevates your mood and makes your eyes sparkle. You will feel more at ease in yourself and not worry so much about trying to fit in.

12. Sit or stand comfortably, scrunch your face up, like a dried prune. Open your eyes look upwards; open your mouth, stretch out your tongue and Roarrrrrr like a lion. Repeat until you feel powerful, calm and in control.

To help you manage your stress and give your best to your family and others, it is vital you make time to rest and recharge and care and nourish yourself. Make it a habit to regularly do these easy yoga exercises, massage tips and breathing techniques through out your day. You will feel energized, relaxed and raring to go.

Yoga In Fayetteville

Yoga, in Fayetteville, began at Breathing Space in January 2005. Lisa Lofthouse partnered with Charlotte Sessoms, a massage therapist, to provide a unique healing environment for the Fayetteville, North Carolina community. What began as a dream of providing yoga classes and massage therapy to a small number of clients, has grown into a healing arts center where a person can enjoy not only the unique abilities of three talented massage therapists, meditation instruction, stress management classes, and beginning this year, nutritional counseling.

All the healing modalities of Breathing Space meld together into a wonderful gift to the community. A person may come seeking yaga and end up taking a cooking class, getting a massage, or enjoying a workshop on breathing techniques. The staff at Breathing Space feel that once you walk in the door your needs will be met and if they are not, we will find a way to meet those needs.

The Fayetteville community has embraced yoga at Breathing Space. The classroom holds up to 10 students, and they may range in age from teenagers to seniors. Most students come seeking development and enrichment of body, mind, and spirit. Lisa Lofthouse and Evangelin Brodksy are both 500-hour Kripalu yoga professional level instructors. Lisa came to yoga from a business and fitness background and Evangelin found yoga through dance. Therefore, even though they were trained at Kripalu, their classes are unique and each brings her own life experiences into the yoga classroom.

Kripalu yoga teaches that all you seek and all you need are within you. Through various life experiences and the continued bombardment of external stimulation, most people seek peace outside of themselves, through walks in nature, going to the movies, reading books, etc. Through yoga, you learn to bring your awareness inward, to notice how the body moves when it breathes, how moving one arm or one wrist can be felt in the shoulder or back. When you learn to dive into inner awareness, even if it is simply noticing one breath, you learn to live in the present moment.

Kripalu yoga is a path of awareness, a path of inquiry into whom and what you really are and all that you have to offer to life. When you begin to bring your awareness to breath and movement, you begin to learn how thoughts and emotions are held in the body. This holding of thoughts and emotions creates tension and through the practice of postures and breath, tension is released and a sense of ease comes into the body. When the body is relaxed and at ease, the mind slows down creating a calmer, quieter lifestyle. So what you learn in a yaga class can be taken off the mat and into your everyday life.

When the body is put into various non-habitual movements and postures and the mind is taught to breathe through these types of tensions and to stay soft and centered, a habit of letting go and simply being develops and this can be carried into every aspect of life.

Lisa and Evangelin believe that the more people come to yaga the closer we will come to creating a more peaceful community right here in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Each person who comes to Breathing Space and is touched by the peace they find and has the ability to add peace and harmony to our community. One posture at a time, one massage at a time, one breath at a time can change the world.

The Top 9 Rules For Doing Yoga Asana

Many of today's commercial yoga centers only teach students how to execute yoga postures or asana. What most people don't know, however, is that in traditional yaga practice, there are different rules that must be followed to it more effective.

These rules are listed below. However, you should know that the group to which I belong to practices traditional yoga, as it was taught to us by our founder. You might find some that some of these tips go against what you have been taught.

1. Take a shower before yoga

Cleanliness is one of the pillars of yoga, which is why you should shower before doing your asana. A clean body supports a clear and concentrated mind, which is necessary for properly executing yoga postures.

2. Do not do yoga outdoors

Doing yoga in an open field may result in sudden exposure to a change in the environment, making you vulnerable to colds.

3. Always practice yoga on a mat

Doing yoga on bare ground may cause you to catch a cold.

4. Breathe through your left nostril or both nostrils

Do not practice asana when you are breathing only through your right nostril - it will disturb your mind and nervous system. Practice asana only while your breath is flowing through the left nostril or both your nostrils.

5. Do not do yoga on a full belly

It is absolutely prohibited for anyone to do yoga for 2 and a half to three hours after a full meal.

6. Massage your body

After practicing your asana, you should massage your arms, legs and entire body - especially the joints - very well. A good massage relaxes your mind and body.

7. After massage, do the corpse posture

When you're done with the massage, do the corpse posture. Lie on your back with your arms on your side, with palms facing upward, for two minutes. This clears the mind and readies it for deep meditation.

8. Do not do any strenuous exercise after asana

Running or practicing any sport is prohibited immediately after doing yoga. Strenuous exercise is not prohibited entirely though - you can do it some hours before or after doing asana.

9. Do not do yoga if you are menstruating or pregnant

While there are commercial yoga programs for pregnant women, for those of us who are practicing traditional yoga, women are not allowed to practice asana if they are menstruating, pregnant, or if they're still within one month of delivering a baby.

Doing yoga in those conditions can seriously disrupt a woman's body processes, and so we seriously prohibit it.

Yoga at Your Desk

How long have you been sitting there staring at that computer? How does your back feel? Not too good? Getting tired? Stiff from sitting?

Practicing yoga at your desk will revive and re-energize you. If you allow your brain to take a break, and allow your breath to rejuvenate your body ~ you will come back more focused and more productive.

Take a break - close your eyes and let your breath travel around your body a little. Like a virus scan, scan your body and allow your breath to erase some tension. Breathe into tight spots and then visualize those spots releasing as you exhale. You will feel even better if you break away every hour or two and stretch some muscles.

In our society stress at work is a prevalent reason for hospital visits. Back pain, headaches and other stress related ailments are popular medical visit complaints. Take some time for yourself, for your health, and breathe a little.

You can reboot your body like you reboot a stuck computer. Pause a minute~ and allow your brain to rest, let your muscles release some of the tension and stress. Try this...

Close your eyes, sit all the way back in your chair, straighten up through your spine, and let your head hang down towards your chest. Now roll your right ear up over your right shoulder and relax the muscles in the left side of your neck and the top of the left shoulder. (Avoid forcing or pushing your head to the side - just let it hang out there.) Breathe. Gently roll your head back down towards your chest and then roll the left ear up near the left shoulder. Breathe.

Repeat as needs to loosen up those neck and shoulder muscles. To complete the exercise, gently roll your head forward again and then lift it straight up and open your eyes. Feel any better? We store tons of tension in the neck and shoulder area ~ every now and then let it go.....

Sit up straight and to the front part of your chair (please use one without wheels or make sure it is secure - I don't want you to go rolling around unexpectedly). Keep your feet planted on the floor. Try rolling your spine forward and back to let the muscles stretch, massage the inner organs and let the blood flow through your spine.

As you inhale, bring your head back and arch your spine (shoulders move backward) so that your belly rounds out in front. Then as you exhale, bring your shoulders forward and exaggerate the spine curve out to the back. So when you inhale your shoulders go back and you stretch the front side of your body, and when you exhale the shoulders come forward and you stretch the back. When you exhale bring your belly button in towards your spine to help you release all the air out of your lungs. Your lower back moves too; tilt your tailbone back on the inhale and then tuck it under on the exhale. Attach your breath to the movement to get the most out of the pose.

Moving the spine around allows the vertebrae to re-lubricate, the muscles to stretch a bit, and the inner organs a gentle massage. Attaching your breath to your movement gives your brain a rest from the rat-race and promotes a mind-body connection.

The breathing helps to remove toxins from the lungs when you exhale and invigorates the muscles when you inhale. When you inhale think about filling your lungs with air. Let the ribs move out to the sides and fill your belly with air just like a balloon. When you exhale let it all out, and let the tension leave your body at the same time.

Yoga - For the Nose

The practice of nasal cleansing has been used by Yoga and Ayurveda Practitioners for thousands of years. This practice is called "Neti." It is one of the six purification techniques performed as a way to prepare the body for yoga practice. This simple technique uses lukewarm water as an irrigation process to gently cleanse the nasal passages. As the gentle flow of salt water (similar to the concentration of your tears) flows through your nasal passage it will help wash away bacteria and viruses.

You may have heard of the Neti Pot recently from articles in the Minneapolis Star and Tribune or possibly on Oprah. Many people nationwide are discussing its benefits and why it has become so popular. Unfortunately with the rise of pollution and chemicals in our environment-what follows is a rise in sinus infections and respiratory illnesses.

A natural way to avoid these issues is to adapt to the practice of Neti just like you would with brushing your teeth in your daily routine. Find a Neti Pot that best suits your nostrils. They come in many shapes and sizes, plastic and ceramic. Most Neti Pots will come with full instructions on how to use them and a salt mixture for you to make your own saline solution at home.

This practice will be very helpful if you are irritated by allergies to pollen, dust or chemical irritants.

Yoga and Yoga Meditation - Benefits For the Mind and Body

Yaga is a practice of synchronizing the body and the mind through movement, breathing, and meditation that has been around for over 5,000 years. There are many different types of yoga, including Hatha, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Ashtanga, and prenatal yoga. Although the practices started in the Far East, people in the United States have seen countless benefits, both physical and mental, from practicing all these different types of yoga.

Yoga's movements promote flexibility and lubrication in the joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Yoga's movements also massage internal organs and glands and tone muscles. That is, yoga is a total body workout that sends new blood and oxygen to all parts of your body- an essential part to detoxification. Yoga also benefits your endurance, energy and balance, circulatory and respiratory systems, pain tolerance, and core strength. Yoga also has the potential to positively influence your weight, posture and quality of sleep!

Mental benefits of yoga come from the harmonization of the body and the mind through meditation. Many people use yoga to decrease stress, increase relaxation, gain emotional balance, and improve concentration. Yoga also reduces anxiety attacks, blood pressure, and muscle tension while increasing self-confidence, serotonin levels, and strengthening your immune system.

So, go grab your yoga mat and start on the road to a healthier you! Although there are yoga studios, instructors and classes all over the United States, you can also practice yoga right in your living room. Yoga DVDs, books, and home programs are readily available for those who do not have enough time or flexibility to make it across town for regular classes.

Yoga Sandals & Toe Spreaders - Healthy Toes And Feet In No Time

Yoga sandals and Toe spreaders are popular tools to re-train your Toes to be able to spread. Also they can re-align the Toes into their natural position after they have been squeezed in shoes for several hours (especially women suffer from Toe misalignment due to unhealthy footwear like high heels and pointed Toes).

Why wear yoga sandals?
In yoga training, there is an emphasis on separating the Toes in the standing postures to improve the sense of grounding and balance, and these sandals re-train the Toes to do just that, while exercising the foot muscles.

The dual action of heel bone support and spreading the Toes strengthens foot muscles, keeps bones flexible and allows the arch to work naturally. Controlling the alignment of the heel improves ambulatory stability of the arch and reduces strain on the lower leg muscles. Break the myth - high arch support in shoes actually weakens the arch muscles. Heal support is critical to foot health. Our sandals promote proper foot motion from heel strike, rolling over to the litle Toe and finishing the step on the big Toe. Recommended by doctors, yoga instructors and upscale health spas.

Why use Toe spreaders?
Exercises your feet and stretches your Toes into healthy alignment. After continued use HealthyToes Toe spreaders will work to relax, heal, beautify, and even strengthen your feet and Toes. Also used by massage therapists, spas, nail salons, health educators and podiatrists, to help beautify, strengthen and heal active or inactive feet.

Where can I buy yoga sandals and HealthyToes Toe spreaders?
If you look for an extensive range of yoga sandals and HealthyToes Toe spreaders, EMP Industries in Melbourne is the right choice for you. They offer great quality products at great prices.

Yoga To Treat Asthma - Breathe Easier By Practicing 3 Simple Poses

Living with asthma can be a real struggle and is often quite frightening when a sudden attack occurs. Being dependent on an inhaler and restricting your activities to those that won't induce an attack can significantly lower your quality of life. However, you can begin to practice yaga to treat asthma and see that it is possible to ease many of your symptoms naturally. Of course, don't change or stop your medications without consulting your doctor first. But why not try yoga-you don't have to be flexible, the poses described below are great for beginners. Over time you may find your asthma symptoms lessening and your breathing is easier with fewer attacks.

How does yoga help to alleviate asthma symptoms? The main way is by promoting deeper breathing. People with asthma tend to have shallow breathing, so breathing deeply will encourage a better breathing pattern. Also, yoga poses that expand the chest and ribs will increase your lung capacity which also helps you breathe better. So which poses are best to treat asthma? Try the three described below:

* Fish Pose - Lie down on your back, with either your legs straight and together with toes pointed outwards or with them bent at the knees. Place your hands palms down under your buttocks and keep your elbows close to your body. Lift your torso off the floor but keep most of the weight on your elbows. Rest either the top or back of your head gently on the floor, keeping your face and neck relaxed. Breathe deeply for about 15 breaths, then lift your head slightly and lower your body back to the floor.

* Camel Pose - Kneel down on your knees with your thighs about hip width apart. Start to lean backwards slowly, reaching behind you for your feet. Only go as far as is comfortable. If you can't reach your feet, you can use a prop until you become more limber. Don't tilt backwards at your thighs, keep them vertical. Hold this pose for about 30-60 seconds, then come back up slowly and rest.

* Cobra Pose - Lie down on your stomach and keep your hands under your shoulders. Keep your legs straight with the heels pointing outwards. Inhale and slowly lift up, but let your back do most of the lifting, not your arms. Press your abs, thighs, and feet into the floor. Only go as high as is comfortable. Hold for about 15-30 seconds, then come back down and rest.

Over time you'll find that you breathe deeper and easier. Don't worry if you can't stretch very far, even just a little bit will help and soon you'll become quite limber. With more practice you may find you don't have as many asthma attacks as before. In the meantime, enjoy your new yoga practice and the path to breathing better naturally!

How To Rest In This Yoga Pose and Mastermind Good Health

What you do on the yoga mat does not stay on the yoga mat! Yoga positions, philosophy, lifestyle and meditations journey with us. Many yoga positions can be transferred to life beyond the yoga mat. We become much more aware of how we stand, sit and the way we move.

Basic yoga poses include resting poses like Shavasana and Child's Pose. There is another basic pose called "Wind Relieving Pose" or Apanasana, basically Child's Pose on your back. If you have a sore knee and cannot rest in Child's Pose, this is an excellent alternative. Lying on your back, hug your knees in towards your chest. If you have a round body and cannot reach your knees, use a strap around your lower legs to hold the knees in place. If your knee is sore to touch, clasp your hands underneath the knee.

To add more movement, leave one knee at the chest, and extend the other leg to the floor. Alternate legs. To strengthen the abdomen, raise the head off the floor and hands as well. If you are recovering from surgery or have weak abdominal muscles, rest the hands palms down on the floor. Always listen to the body's messages.

This yaga pose helps elimination problems, including menstrual cramps. It is a cooling pose. With both legs in towards the chest, hold for 15 minutes or more to release tension in the low back. The pose encourages surrender. As you breathe consciously and rhythmically the diaphragm massages the abdominal and pelvic areas, assisting digestion. Feel this movement in the abdomen. With eyes closed you are drawn deeper within to rest in your own secret world. Even the heart can relax.

Mastermind

When settled comfortably in the pose, with breathing stabilized, you can mastermind a plan for good health. Visualization is easier for some of us. It gets easier with practice. What does good health look like to you? Feel that good health as you hold the pose. Which system of the body is affected? How well do you know the system? If it is unfamiliar, you'll need to research what it looks like in order to visualize it. To be more effective, practice visualizing good health 3 times per day for 15 minutes.

Rest in peaceful surrender in Apanasana, with eyes gently closed. Feel the breath move within your body like a slow wave, rising and falling. Allow the mind and heart to rest in your secret sacred place of healing.

Yoga and Pregnancy - A Great Combination

Yoga is helpful for every individual, but yaga during pregnancy is even more important. Women have great hormonal, biological and anatomical changes throughout pregnancy that might bring about unwanted problems. Pregnancy may also make women feel trapped, insecure and unsure of the outcome of the pregnancy. All of this may cause significant physical and mental distress. But practicing yoga while pregnant, with appropriate modifications and support from their health care professional, can help women discover much needed comfort, not just through minimizing anxiousness and instilling peacefulness, but also in strengthening the body and releasing tightness in the hips in preparation for birth and also by increasing oxygen and energy.

Yoga can increase self-assurance levels and stimulate the intuitive instincts. These elements allow for a smooth, uncomplicated delivery. Special Yogic respiratory techniques, called Pranayama, may help mother and fetus get more oxygen. Deep breathing relaxes the mother during labor; it also can help her focus and control her breathing when labor pains and contractions begin. Yoga during pregnancy helps lessen the strain on the muscular tissues and joints and improves blood circulation and the lymph fluids. Yoga boosts the power, flexibility and elasticity of all muscles and improves posture. It relieves pain in the lower back and knees (a common problem in pregnancy). It lowers blood pressure and benefits the central nervous and endocrine systems.

Stamina increases with regular yaga practice, which helps during labor. Continuing yoga subsequent to delivery will help bring back the strength and firmness of the principal muscles of the abdomen and back. Many health trials have been completed regarding the benefits of yoga, reaching the conclusion that regular practice does the following:

- Regulates the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems;
- Improves the assimilation of nutritional compounds in the tissues;
- Increases endorphins in the brain (cerebral chemicals, serotonin);
- Increases blood flow and massages the muscular tissues and the internal systems;
- Reverses the negative effects of the gravitational forces within the internal organs and the external body;
- During Meditation, the presence of Alpha and Theta waves increase in the brain that are responsible for creating a state of calmness and equilibrium.

POST-NATAL RECOVERY

After the baby is born, even if delivery was uncomplicated, a woman may experience difficulty in several areas. She may be unable to cope with a number of demands that are placed on her. She may experience exhaustion and fatigue and many new aches and pains. Her life is now changed forever and the new obligations may appear insurmountable. Melancholy occurs frequently in new moms and sometimes leads to catastrophic outcomes if not attended to.

A daily yoga practice of asana and pranayama, as well as meditation, is highly recommended for post-natal recovery. Yoga will alleviate symptoms of exhaustion and tiredness and increases positive energy flow. Furthermore, it massages and tightens the internal organs, primarily the womb, that has undergone great changes during pregnancy, and restores resiliency and strength of the abdominals.

Yoga stimulates the pituitary glands which regulate prolactin, helping with the production of milk for breast feeding moms. It strengthens the back muscles that have been strained from increasing body weight, and restores and strengthens the pelvic region, hips and bones. Yaga strengthens, stretches and relieves strain in the upper body, neck and shoulders due to the weight of carrying the new infant, and helps rebuild proper posture and a healthy back. Pranayama breathing techniques will help increase oxygen and energy levels in the body and promote a sense of calmness and much needed rejuvenation. Meditation helps to center and calm the mind and rebuilds a sense of stability, leading to a better capacity to respond to the demands of motherhood.

Yoga during pregnancy will help with the changes that happen physically and emotionally. Afterward, it will help with the transition needed for higher enjoyment and appreciation of, by far, the most amazing occurrence of all, the miracle of life!

What does yoga involve is a common question asked by newcomers, well the answer to that is yoga gives you control over two things - one is your breathing and the other is the physical exercise which helps improve strength and flexibility.

Music to be played in the background of a yoga class will be picked accordingly to create an atmosphere for what ever exercise is taking place.

Orchestral tunes set the scene for a serene and mellow feel. Meditation music will relate to comforting sounds - sounds such as the call of the forest, whistling birds and wind chimes. Concentration is very important when in the sedate calm world of meditation - so therefore the music has to be suitable. For Example the famous ballet swan lake would never of had the same affect if those graceful moves were performed to the tune of I`m a Yankee Doodle dandy.

Invigorating noises that please the mind can help improve yoga exercise. The word Yoga is like music to some people`s ears due to the fact that they get to keep in shape while increasing lubrication of the ligaments, tendons and joints.

Corpse Pose - The Yoga Link For Relaxation and Liberation

Corpse pose or savasana is the final pose in many yoga practices that sets the stage for relaxation. While it may be easy to relax the body through progressive steps-from muscular to spiritual-the mind is much harder to tame. The Hatha Yoga Pradipika, one of the oldest texts on Hatha yoga from the 15th century, states "with this posture tiredness caused by other postures is eliminated; it also promotes calmness of mind. And it is pleasant to find that no mystery is involved." Final relaxation is thus another tool in the yoga tradition to achieve relaxation and liberation from the negative thoughts and emotions of the mind.

Muscular relaxation is one of the primary goals in corpse pose. This is achieved by scanning the body for tension and sustained muscular contractions or actively tensing muscles and releasing them to teach awareness of tension vs. muscular relaxation. Most yoga classes minimally focus on releasing this kind of tension during the session.

Autonomic relaxation calms the nervous system by reducing the over-activation of the fight or flight response. This includes lowering the blood pressure and heart rate. One way to calm the nervous system is through focusing on the breath during final relaxation. The breath calms the nervous system in three ways: natural diaphragmatic breathing, extending the exhalation slightly beyond the inhalation and natural smoothness. For these reasons, B.K.S. Inyengar in Light on Yoga, recommends to breathe fine and slow with no jerkiness and to concentrate on deep and fine exhalations for 15-20 minutes.

Emotional relaxation involves letting go of negative thoughts and emotions and replacing them with positive thoughts and affirmations. A simple technique often used in the gratitude release. As you lie in corpse pose think of positive thoughts, experiences and people that you have gratitude for in your life. Another way to achieve this is to have compassionate thoughts for someone that you have conflict with or negative emotions. Dwelling on positive affirmations such as "I can relax, "I am loved," or "my heart is open to receive" can help shift the mind to a relaxed and positive state.

Mental relaxation moves beyond letting go of negative thoughts. At this point, the mind may still have thoughts but there is an unbroken concentration that prevents one from attaching to the thoughts. They simply come and go like ocean waves. Mental relaxation can be as easy as focusing one's attention on the breath, counting numbers or repeating or internalizing a mantra such as "relax" or "let go."

Spiritual relaxation occurs when a personal is able to absorb the thoughts and agitation of the mind and connect deeper to the infinite space or Self that lies within. At this point the person, still fully awake and can transcend the senses and connect inward. This means that the personal is fully relaxed whether in a quiet yoga room or experiencing the sounds of a busy city. Spiritual relaxation leaves the body and mind in an energized and renewed state.

The next time you do yoga, think of the crucial benefits that come from corpse pose. It's easy to skip or reduce the amount of time given to this section of yoga practice; however, the benefits are very powerful in that they help achieve the ultimate goal of yoga-liberation of the mind.

Yoga and Back Pain Part 2

Although back pain is often caused by an injury to one or more of the structures of the back, it may have another cause. Factors that increase your risk for back pain and injury include getting older, having a family history of back pain, sitting for long periods, lifting or pulling heavy objects, or having a degenerative disease such as osteoporosis. Chronic pain syndrome caused by a previous injury or degenerative disease with aging can cause back pain. Many problems in the neck resulting from injury, recurring work strain, stress, and possibly joint degeneration can lead to head pain. Sudden back pain is characterized by: pain which lasts less than a month and half swelling and/or bruising in the area of injury.

Problems

Thai or yoga massage, physiotherapy or spinal therapy treatment for this type of back injury usually give good results and can reduce recovery time and prevent ongoing problems. Injuries such as sprains and fractures, mechanical problems including muscle spasms and imbalance and herniated discs, various acquired conditions of the spine including osteoporosis and rarely, infections and tumours may all give rise to back pain.

Still other studies have found that problems in the cervical spine can cause pain similar to headache. Walking and other cardiovascular exercises have been found to reduce and/or alleviate chronic pain problems, including a tension headache. Whether resulting from a severe or minor injury or daily wear and tear, most people will suffer from back problems at some point in their lives.

Work comfort and design will help most back problems that occur in the workplace which are caused by physical stress, such as being in an awkward position for a long time, making the same motions over and over, and simply using your back too much. Back pain is one of the most common medical problems, which will affect about eight out of 10 people at some point during their lives.

Medical

Medical reports on yoga. Many doctors are now verifying that yoga is beneficial in treating a number of health problems, including back pain. Until recently headaches were largely considered a nuisance by the medical community and many other health care providers. Headaches are one of the most common reasons that people seek both medical and body work or chiropractic treatment. Because of their greater flexibility and lack of age related degeneration, children and teenagers are much less prone than adults to develop medically significant back pain.

In spite of the magnitude of the problem, a simple, effective cure for backache has proved elusive to modern medical science other than yoga. With a burning sensation of shoulder pain, desk bound and computer users may suffer from back pain on different sides of the body.

Yoga Ayurveda - An Introduction to Understanding the Body-Mind-Spirit Connection With Yoga Ayurveda

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian healing system that allows you to gain insight into your body mind. It explains how to keep the body mind balanced with the internal and external environment, and functioning optimally.

When you have insight into your unique body mind nature, you understand:

  • What your potential is
  • Your likes and dislikes
  • Why you do the things you do
  • How you are likely to respond to stress
  • What diseases you are more likely to succumb to
  • What your dominant tendencies are, both negative and positive

The ancient seers realized that the 5 universal elements exist within all of creation. That the qualities or metaphors of earth, water, fire, air and ether is present within nature in various combinations. For example: observe the proportion of solidness - earth - that's within a palm tree and an oak; the quality of lightness - fire - within garlic and pepper; and the quality of movement - air - within a tortoise and a hare.

A unique combination of the elements, called doshas, form the body, and each body must be cared for it its own distinctive way to achieve and maintain balance with the environment. This is essential for health as an excess or deficiency of an element can ultimately result in disease.

Body Mind Spirit and Yoga Therapy

In the Yoga Ayurveda connection, Ayurveda emphasizes cleansing and building the physical body through herbs, massage, diet and lifestyle, and recommends yoga, meditation and breathing techniques for healing body mind spirit. With an understanding of your body mind nature, you'll be alert to override the natural tendency to select those yoga exercises, meditation and breathing techniques that create imbalance.

Yoga therapy with Ayurveda would be guided by the principles of Ayurveda. Ayurveda recognizes the cycles of time and season, and their affect on the body. The six different times of each day has an affect on the doshas, and therefore each body. Each season of the year will increase one or two doshas within the body. And this ancient Indian healing system acknowledges three different times of our lives that also affect body and mind.

In the body mind spirit connection, the mind changes constantly. Cool and calm one moment, then agitated another, and feeling dull and lethargic yet another time. And when we understand our predisposition to a specific emotion like fear, anger or greed, these enemies of the spirit can be tackled.

Yoga therapy and Ayurveda can rejuvenate your body and bring compassion and understanding to relationships. Get to know your body mind nature and understand why you do the things you do.

And now I invite you to take the test to gain insight into your Ayurvedic body mind nature, when you visit http://www.yogatogo.com

Find a Yoga Retreat and Have Healthy Fun

Yoga retreats are offered throughout the year offering classically-based practice, or creatively-explored approaches to all forms of yoga, meditation, self-inquiry, nature and deep silence. This creates an environment for deepening your practice, personal renewal and spiritual reflection. Yoga Retreats to beautiful outdoor locations can give you time to explore beaches, mountains or other landscapes, have massages or just exploring the local culture. Yoga retreats are offered all over the world. Yoga vacations and retreats are an uplifting journey into self.

Fun Retreats

These are also casual, fun yoga retreats where all ages and levels can participate. Some Retreats are dedicated to promoting the authentic spiritual tradition of Yoga in a spectacular environment. There are a huge number of yoga retreats available in a number of wonderful and powerful locations. I highly recommend a retreat for spiritual seekers of all levels, or for people just looking for a time of inner peace in a beautiful outdoor setting for a few days. Caribbean retreats are even available. Most will offer you itineraries with two yoga classes daily, some time for meditation, guided and even let you choose personal hiking and lots of free time to explore and connect with nature. They also usually feature sumptuous organic foods. Unique yoga retreats provide a wide array of yoga experiences in combination with just about any type of diverse and complimentary activity you would want.

Teacher Retreats

I believe that attending a yoga retreat is essential if you are to grow as a teacher and become a teacher who can communicate with all levels of students. They will let you touch base with your inner self, practice daily meditation and yoga, and find excellent treatments. You can learn all about yoga retreats from your yoga teacher, magazines, friends and by looking up retreats that may interest you online. Many people are drawn to yoga retreats like this because they offer the chance to combine a great vacation with another activity that they love: yoga.

Yoga Retreat

Retreats are a wonderful way to give yourself a well deserved vacation, meet new friends and try something new. The retreats and the fantastic people met are special and there are opportunities to connect and create long lasting friendships. When you attend a Yoga Retreat it's an opportunity to reflect and re-evaluate your entire life from a much different different perspective. A lot more than a pamper or health holiday, the retreat offers a potentially life-changing experience. At times the retreat is a journey to the heart, and yet at other times it's an experience of freedom and inner joy, or a sense of connectedness. The effects can often be felt for weeks after the retreat is over and this can create a great opportunity for one huge life changing experience.

Yoga Retreat Activities

Yoga and meditation is usually offered daily (for example from 7am-9am), pranayama, chanting, relaxation and pilates and various activities and other rituals throughout the day, of course this all varies based on which retreat you choose, so make sure that you find one with a good balance of activities that interest you. The outcome is usually an incredible amount of time for you to relax and rejuvenate. Some even offer a chance to nurture the body and release unwanted tension including excellent on site massage, or an opportunity to cleanse the entire body of toxins which may build up from a poor diet, or lack of exercise.

Advantages of Yoga Retreats

A retreat is often a time to disconnect from the entire outer world, and to re-connect with your own inner soul. It's an excellent chance to have a yoga experience and to immerse yourself in practice in a supportive and healing environment all at the same time. Yoga holidays are also available: giving you an ability to take a vacation and experience a yoga retreat during busy holiday times - this is especially helpful for singles or others who may not have a close family to enjoy the holidays with. Many times a retreat is designed for you to find rest, relaxation, and a place for reflection and growth in a natural environment. Some companies even offer customized personal retreats that will let you fit it to your own schedule. A yoga vacation, holiday, getaway or retreat offers the ultimate opportunity for a healthy, fun and fantastic adventure to exotic places, or interesting places close to home.

Yoga - How You Could Easily Change Your Body

Yoga is often looked at by the public as nothing more than a new form of exercise. If you have seen this act as that and nothing more, you are missing out on some of the biggest essences of yoga. This art form does more than help you lose weight. It can cleanse, relax, and transform your body in a way that you cannot find anywhere else. Yoga is designed to target all areas of your body through different exercises and positions. Practicing properly can yield great transformations in the end.

By tapping into all these different parts of your body, yaga gives you a greater sense of flexibility. You will start feeling a change in the way your muscles interact with one another, and you will lubricate joints you may not have even known you had. Yoga is all a matter of awareness and application. If you are aware of certain things about your body, you can apply techniques to it that will make you much more limber than you may have thought possible. You can see your body's abilities change right before your eyes.

Yaga can also help you by massaging the different organs in your body. Literally every organ is impacted by the positions in one way or another, and by targeting all of them, you can actually become more aware of potential disorders you may have. Studies have shown that people who practice yoga are more likely to discover the onset of a disease or disorder because of how well they are tuned in with their bodies. Indeed, something as simple as an exercise can actually improve your health by making you more aware of what is happening within your system. That way you can get help as soon as you need it.

The creative positions in yoga allow your body to hit its maximum blood circulation abilities. This is great for ridding out toxins in your system that you may not even be aware of. As yoga flushes out these bad things in your body, you can start to feel more energized, less depressed, and genuinely happier overall. You may be sore from your yoga positions, but you will develop a tolerance for that in time. If yoga sounds like the right activity for you, take a look into some of the lessons available in your area.
