Do you secretly wish you could share yoga with others so they too can benefit? Is he idea of teaching yoga a little scary? Have courage. Learn more by looking at key principles of yoga as a healing path.

Principle 1 - Yoga Therapy is the application of the science of yoga to enhance health and wellness. All 3 levels of the whole person are taken into consideration: body mind spirit.

Benefit - Anyone going through a life change, or a transition, can benefit from this therapy as it is much more than a yoga prescription for yoga exercises.

Principle 2 - Yoga Therapy recognizes that the body and mind will be balanced when an individual experiences a sense of oneness within. This is considered an awakening to the spiritual dimensions of life, and the key to health and healing.

Benefit - When body and mind imbalances manifest as a health condition, this is seen as a signal on life's healing path that there is disconnect with some level of our being.

Principle 3 - The healing path is unique to each individual. The techniques from the yoga tradition must be adapted and modified according to age, culture, religion, and specific physical challenge.

Benefit - However you are, whatever you are, at the right time and place, you can experience health and healing through the skilful application of yoga techniques.

Principle 4 - Yoga philosophy and psychology form the basis of Yoga Therapy and state that lack of knowledge of the true Self is the source of all dis-ease and illness.

Benefit - Even though symptoms are alleviated or have gone, health and healing is still possible at deeper levels of being.

Principle 5 - The 8 limbs of Ashtanga Yoga serve as the primary foundation of Yoga Therapy.

Benefit - In the Yoga Sutras there is a clear path to gain knowledge of the true Self. (1) Moral disciplines (2) Restraints (3) Postures (4) Breathing (5) Drawing senses inward (6) Concentration (7) Meditation (8) Ecstasy

Principle 6 - Yoga techniques must be combined with the vision of yoga and the healing path of yoga for a successful treatment.

Benefit - Health, healing and awakening are achieved through the integration of body mind spirit.

Principle 7 - While remaining rooted in Yoga Tradition, the Yoga Therapist brings his/her own knowledge, interests, and healing approaches to guide the client in balancing body and mind.

Benefit - The yoga therapist remains grounded in the vision and foundations of Yoga, and offers a unique and safer environment for the client to explore body mind and emotions on the path to health and healing.

Yoga Therapy - Avoid These 3 Mistakes That Delay Self Healing, and Use 3 A's of Yoga Therapy Instead

Are you making these 3 mistakes that delay self healing? This information is especially important if you find the same situation keeps reoccurring. What type of responsibility is yours in self healing, and what is the role for your health care practitioner or yoga therapist? Let's see.

Mistake #1 - You are not aware of how your emotions create a distance between you and your source of support, your family. You are angry because your requests are not fulfilled as quickly as you would like, or you have a certain amount of resentment . You may even be lashing out at ones closest to you.

Strategy: Awareness - Notice how emotions like fear or anger influence your behaviour and relationships.

Mistake #2 - You subtly deny the problem, the situation. Yes you feel the pain and discomfort, and even dwell on the limitations it cause. Yet you barely glance at the issue itself; and do so very infrequently. You may think about all the things you cannot do when there is a particular kind of weather, or because of someone else's mistake, or perhaps your own mistake. Yet you rarely look at the problem itself.

Strategy: Acceptance - Look objectively at the facts concerning the situation without blame or shame. What is it that does exist?

Mistake #3- You resist making necessary changes to your attitude and actions. Perhaps you trivialize the situation, aggravate the discomfort, and learn to live with it. You think you are doing o.k. given the circumstances; you brace yourself and manage to weather each storm.

Strategy: Adjustment - Find out what changes you need to make for self healing and make them. Changes can be on a physical, mental emotional, and/or spiritual level.

Role of Your Health Care Practitioner or Yoga Therapy

The Yoga Therapist will bring the skills and resources and create a safer space for you to examine mistakes that delay self healing. Whether it is a life change, a transition, or a health challenge, the foundation of your work with yoga therapy will be yoga philosophy and yoga psychology.

If you are having an individual session, the yoga therapist will select and adapt the techniques from the yoga tradition according to your age, culture, religion, and specific physical challenge. Yoga therapy does not have a one size fits all approach to self healing. The holistic approach is customized and takes into consideration your Ayurvedic mind body constitution and your strengths and weaknesses.

Using yoga philosophy, the yoga therapist seeks to highlight the question: What is preventing this individual from experiencing the whole person? I encourage you to access the wisdom and answers within you through meditation and deep relaxation.

And now, I'd like to invite you to claim your free download of 10 minutes of guided "Body and Breath Awareness" relaxation when you visit http://www.yogatogo.com

My Experiences With Bikram Yoga

There are a lot reasons why you should beginn to practice Bikram Yoga. The advantages of Bikram Yoga can totally change your life. It is amazing how Yoga can trigger your life and change your perspectives.

Bikram Yoga is widely known as the “hot yoga”. It was also called the Bikram Method Yoga. This intents to build your mental and physical strength. Improving your flexibility and balance is ivery mportant and covered by Bikram Yoga.

Bikram yoga has roots in Hatha yoga which was designed to heal the mind and the body.

Bikram Choudhury was the founder of Bikram Yoga. He was a founder and a yoga practitioner. He developed Bikram Yoga after he met an injury in a weightlifting accident. He was so determined that he had discovered some healing benefits in practicing some exercises. Many people have proven the benefits of Bikram Yoga so the practice was passed on and many people continued to practice this wonderful type of Yoga..

Some people practice Bikram Yoga for healing purposes and physical therapy. This type of Yoga was proven helpful in bringing holistic benefits to those who believed and practiced it.

In fact, there was a patient who suffered from a knee injury. He tried to practice Bikram Yoga and just six weeks after continuous practice, his knees started to feel better. Some troubles and pains that he suffered from were all disappearing.

In order to be successful with the healing process of Bikram Yoga, you need devotion in practicing it.

There are some people who don't believe in the benefits of Bikram Yoga. Bikram Choudhury developed Bikram Yoga with the help of some scientists. The scientists from the University of Tokyo University Hospital proved that Bikram Yoga has medical benefits. Some of its benefits include the repairing of tissues and helps in curing chronic ailments.

The findings and benefits were presented at the International Medical Conference in the year 1972. It was stated that this type of Yoga has the ability to affect the body internally.

The poses and pressure replenishes the cells and the flushing toxins in our body. It also oxygenates blood throughout our body keeping it clean and healthy.

While Bikram was on his research at Tokyo University, he discovered that the healing process takes place when all the body systems are functioning well, conditioned and strengthened. If the body is weak, applying the practice and healing method will be very difficult to obtain.

Bikram has come up with twenty-six posture exercises which are to be practiced every single day. In doing so, treatment in the body can be easily obtained. Some poses are accumulated with the combination of the western and eastern disciplines in Yoga which focuses on the stretching of the muscles, tendons, organs, nerves, glands and ligaments.

The different postures have connections and each of it precedes a posture that's helpful in treating the body effectively.

Anyone who prefer to* do yoga can use Biktam Yoga. It chooses no age at all. This type of yoga works with a tourniquet effect which includes balancing, stretching and creating pressure which is all done at a same time to keep a good blood flow to all the parts of the body.

Thanks to Bikram Choudhury, we can now have solutions to some of our medical problems. Always remember that dedication and devotion to Bikram Yoga is the main ingredient to staying healthy.

Healing Power Of Yoga

Discover Yoga's Healing Power

There are several medical conditions that can be improved by practicing yoga. It can be used to lessen the negative effects of infertility, lung disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, insomnia, cancer, high blood pressure, and joint pain. The beneficial effects of yoga practices are well recognized not only by the yoga community but also by medical doctors.

One of the main elements that lead to an illness is stress. Being responsible for a huge number of sicknesses, this item, which we develop in our minds, can be reduced through a good usage of yoga techniques. Here are just some of the problems that are related to an over active stress response: depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, some types of diabetes mellitus, cardio-vascular disease, several autoimmune diseases, irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, reproductive problems, and an aggravated suppression of the immune system.

The response of the sympathetic nervous system can trigger stress in our metabolism. The reaction to various outside stimuli is also known as the “fight or flight” response – the mind and body, faced with an endangering or disturbing element, prepare for one of the two options. Physically, this is manifested through an instantaneous heart rate increase, together with a high ascent of blood pressure. Breathing gets shallow and the muscles tense in anticipation to the following action. Internally, this response reduces the blood flow to internal organs and processes that are not essential in that particular moment (such as digestion and elimination) are shut down. This state of increased awareness and readiness is beneficial on a short term, preparing our body to react to the outside interventions and stimuli. Both in a “fight” and in a “flight” situation, the body is physically and mentally prepared to act. The problem arises when long-term exposure to similar stress takes place. This “fight or flight” response is only meant to help on short periods of time – the longer it is activated the less resources will the body have to function normally.

There is a natural countermeasure for the “fight or flight” response. It is called the parasympathetic nervous system or the “relaxation response.” It is automatically activated when the elements that caused the stress are gone but it is also possible to increase its effects by breathing deeply and relaxing your muscles. By increasing the length of this process we allow our body to recover faster, enabling it to eliminate the harmful effects of stress in a prompt and efficient manner.

Yoga highlights the idea that by using breathing and relaxation techniques you can reduce the harmful effects of stress factors on your body. A lessened “fight or flight” response can also be achieved by looking at adverse factors as challenges rather than threats. This approach allows your mind to focus on finding a solution, rather than creating an abrupt response. Another concept employed by this technique is that of acting versus reacting, of taking initiative versus responding to outside factors.

The positive effects of yoga during a healing process are undeniable. However, these techniques should only be used as a form of support and the healing shouldn’t rely solely on them. The best results are achieved by combining yoga with traditional and modern medicine and by addressing a problem both from a mental and physical point of view.

How Bikram Yoga Can Change Your Life

Yes it is true, the advantages that Bikram Yoga will give you can ultimately change your perspectives and change your whole life completely. Bikram yoga is also known as Bikram Method Yoga and sometimes called the ‘hot yoga’. This yoga method builds both your physical and mental strength and also improves your flexibility and balance, all of which are very important in your overall health.

Bikram yoga was founded by Bikram Choudhury and has roots from Hatha yoga, which helps to heal the mind and body. Bikram suffered an injury in a weightlifting accident and it was as a result of this injury that he developed this type of yoga. He discovered some healing benefits within some of the exercises he practised and then went on to share his discovery and Bikram yoga has since gone on to be practised by many, many people.

This type of yoga helps to bring holistic benefits to those who practise it and it is usually practised for its healing benefits. Many people have found that their ailments have reduced significantly after practising Bikram yoga for a a few weeks.

It does take some devotion to Bikram yoga to really get the full healing benefits from it. You can’t just do the poses once and expect to be healed, it is a process that takes time, but it is definitely worth doing and once you begin to feel the benefits you can continue to practise the method to maintain your health.

Bikram yoga helps to repair tissues and cure chronic ailments. This has been studied by scientists from the University of Tokyo and found to be true and it was stated that this method does have the ability to affect the body internally.

This method works by replenishing the cells and flushing toxins through our body. It also helps to oxygenate blood through our body helping to keep it clean and healthy. The method will be much more effective on a healthy body than it would on a body that is weak so it is beneficial to practise the method regularly to maintain that good health.

There are twenty six posture exercises in Bikram yoga which should be practised every day for optimum health. These focus on stretching muscles, tendons, nerves, glands, organs and ligaments.

Anyone of any age can practise Bikram yoga and will find that it could help to assist and perhaps even overcome some medical problems and I am sure that if you are devoted to your yoga practise you will enjoy a very healthy life.

Yoga Ayurveda - An Introduction to Understanding the Body-Mind-Spirit Connection With Yoga Ayurveda

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian healing system that allows you to gain insight into your body mind. It explains how to keep the body mind balanced with the internal and external environment, and functioning optimally.

When you have insight into your unique body mind nature, you understand:

  • What your potential is
  • Your likes and dislikes
  • Why you do the things you do
  • How you are likely to respond to stress
  • What diseases you are more likely to succumb to
  • What your dominant tendencies are, both negative and positive

The ancient seers realized that the 5 universal elements exist within all of creation. That the qualities or metaphors of earth, water, fire, air and ether is present within nature in various combinations. For example: observe the proportion of solidness - earth - that's within a palm tree and an oak; the quality of lightness - fire - within garlic and pepper; and the quality of movement - air - within a tortoise and a hare.

A unique combination of the elements, called doshas, form the body, and each body must be cared for it its own distinctive way to achieve and maintain balance with the environment. This is essential for health as an excess or deficiency of an element can ultimately result in disease.

Body Mind Spirit and Yoga Therapy

In the Yoga Ayurveda connection, Ayurveda emphasizes cleansing and building the physical body through herbs, massage, diet and lifestyle, and recommends yoga, meditation and breathing techniques for healing body mind spirit. With an understanding of your body mind nature, you'll be alert to override the natural tendency to select those yoga exercises, meditation and breathing techniques that create imbalance.

Yoga therapy with Ayurveda would be guided by the principles of Ayurveda. Ayurveda recognizes the cycles of time and season, and their affect on the body. The six different times of each day has an affect on the doshas, and therefore each body. Each season of the year will increase one or two doshas within the body. And this ancient Indian healing system acknowledges three different times of our lives that also affect body and mind.

In the body mind spirit connection, the mind changes constantly. Cool and calm one moment, then agitated another, and feeling dull and lethargic yet another time. And when we understand our predisposition to a specific emotion like fear, anger or greed, these enemies of the spirit can be tackled.

Yoga therapy and Ayurveda can rejuvenate your body and bring compassion and understanding to relationships. Get to know your body mind nature and understand why you do the things you do.

And now I invite you to take the test to gain insight into your Ayurvedic body mind nature, when you visit http://www.yogatogo.com

Yoga In Fayetteville

Yoga, in Fayetteville, began at Breathing Space in January 2005. Lisa Lofthouse partnered with Charlotte Sessoms, a massage therapist, to provide a unique healing environment for the Fayetteville, North Carolina community. What began as a dream of providing yoga classes and massage therapy to a small number of clients, has grown into a healing arts center where a person can enjoy not only the unique abilities of three talented massage therapists, meditation instruction, stress management classes, and beginning this year, nutritional counseling.

All the healing modalities of Breathing Space meld together into a wonderful gift to the community. A person may come seeking yaga and end up taking a cooking class, getting a massage, or enjoying a workshop on breathing techniques. The staff at Breathing Space feel that once you walk in the door your needs will be met and if they are not, we will find a way to meet those needs.

The Fayetteville community has embraced yoga at Breathing Space. The classroom holds up to 10 students, and they may range in age from teenagers to seniors. Most students come seeking development and enrichment of body, mind, and spirit. Lisa Lofthouse and Evangelin Brodksy are both 500-hour Kripalu yoga professional level instructors. Lisa came to yoga from a business and fitness background and Evangelin found yoga through dance. Therefore, even though they were trained at Kripalu, their classes are unique and each brings her own life experiences into the yoga classroom.

Kripalu yoga teaches that all you seek and all you need are within you. Through various life experiences and the continued bombardment of external stimulation, most people seek peace outside of themselves, through walks in nature, going to the movies, reading books, etc. Through yoga, you learn to bring your awareness inward, to notice how the body moves when it breathes, how moving one arm or one wrist can be felt in the shoulder or back. When you learn to dive into inner awareness, even if it is simply noticing one breath, you learn to live in the present moment.

Kripalu yoga is a path of awareness, a path of inquiry into whom and what you really are and all that you have to offer to life. When you begin to bring your awareness to breath and movement, you begin to learn how thoughts and emotions are held in the body. This holding of thoughts and emotions creates tension and through the practice of postures and breath, tension is released and a sense of ease comes into the body. When the body is relaxed and at ease, the mind slows down creating a calmer, quieter lifestyle. So what you learn in a yaga class can be taken off the mat and into your everyday life.

When the body is put into various non-habitual movements and postures and the mind is taught to breathe through these types of tensions and to stay soft and centered, a habit of letting go and simply being develops and this can be carried into every aspect of life.

Lisa and Evangelin believe that the more people come to yaga the closer we will come to creating a more peaceful community right here in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Each person who comes to Breathing Space and is touched by the peace they find and has the ability to add peace and harmony to our community. One posture at a time, one massage at a time, one breath at a time can change the world.

Yoga's Healing Powers and Anti Aging Properties

Yoga has countless healing powers and health advantages. Yoga originated from India where yogis were Buddhists who practiced to attain spirituality and harmony. You might have dwelt on the pictures of yogis floating in the air with their legs crossed and eyes closed and pondered over its implication. The idea behind the picture is very simple. Yogis believed that such immense lightness of mind and body was achieved from meditating that the body itself floated in the air like a feather in the wind.

Today yoga is still as popular over there as it was in dark ages but modern yoga does not deal with floating in the air but focuses more on health and fitness of the body as well as that of the mind. Yoga inculcates discipline, harmonizing the body, mind and spirit. The combined efforts of posture maintenance, relaxation, and breathing exercises clear the body of toxins and allow free flow of energy.

Yoga provides immense relief from daily tensions which a person experiences from routine life activities and responsibilities. Yoga postures improve the blood flow to the crucial systems of the body like the spleen, pancreas, urinary system, thyroid, lungs and heart and tones our muscles increasing their efficiency and longevity.

The few main benefits of yoga are highlighted below:
1. Insomnia and asthma attacks are prevented and eliminated to a positive extent
2. It provides relief to sufferers of backache and osteoporosis
3. It regulates blood pressure and blood flow
4. Combats obesity and acidity
5. Cures breathlessness and aids anemic patients
6. The functioning of the ovaries also improves for those women suffering from menstrual disorders
7. Body posture is elevated and firmness of figure is acquired
8. Harmony of the body and mind is ensured

Yoga focuses on unity of mind and body. It is very important to practice the yoga postures
known as asanas with the help of some yoga dvds as some exercises require guidance to follow and exercising in the wrong ways may lead to serious complications.

Courses are available commonly for home practice. More and more people are realizing the benefits of yoga and join yoga classes to derive its multiple benefits.

Yoga is a natural anti aging agent. Different yoga postures ensure that the health of the body is maintained and that the skin remains wrinkle free for longer years. Yoga is a beauty enhancer, toning the skin and keeping the twinkle and glitter of the eyes for a lifetime. The soul of the yogi undergoes tranquility and peace and this contentment is shown on the skin and body. The waves of moods are kept at bay by meditation and relaxation.

There are three styles of yoga which a person can choose from: Hatha yoga, Bikram yoga and Raja yoga. Hatha yoga is the standard style followed commonly as the asanas are very easy to catch on and practice regularly. It does not demand any special qualifications. The answer lies in keeping up with the yoga postures and maintaining a balance in life to get long lasting and effective results.

Yoga and meditation is usually offered daily (for example from 7am-9am), pranayama, chanting, relaxation and pilates and various activities and other rituals throughout the day, of course this all varies based on which retreat you choose, so make sure that you find one with a good balance of activities that interest you. The outcome is usually an incredible amount of time for you to relax and rejuvenate. Some even offer a chance to nurture the body and release unwanted tension including excellent on site massage, or an opportunity to cleanse the entire body of toxins which may build up from a poor diet, or lack of exercise.

Advantages of Yoga Retreats

A retreat is often a time to disconnect from the entire outer world, and to re-connect with your own inner soul. It's an excellent chance to have a yoga experience and to immerse yourself in practice in a supportive and healing environment all at the same time. Yoga holidays are also available: giving you an ability to take a vacation and experience a yoga retreat during busy holiday times - this is especially helpful for singles or others who may not have a close family to enjoy the holidays with. Many times a retreat is designed for you to find rest, relaxation, and a place for reflection and growth in a natural environment. Some companies even offer customized personal retreats that will let you fit it to your own schedule. A yoga vacation, holiday, getaway or retreat offers the ultimate opportunity for a healthy, fun and fantastic adventure to exotic places, or interesting places close to home.

Relax! Twelve Essential Yoga Tips to Help Working Mums Manage Stress

How many times during the day do you hear the words "... "Mum, can I have ...." "Mum, it's not fair" "mum, have you seen my .... Or the classic, "mum, I'm hungry"

It's tough being a working mum. You need super human skills to manage the varied and complex demands of parenting as well as coping with the fast-moving pressures of your job.
Some days, you wake up tried and exhausted from caring for your sick children, other days you go to bed tired and exhausted from rushing home from work to be on time to attend your daughter's Parent-Teacher's Meeting.

In the midst of all this responsibility, caring and sharing, it is very easy to run out of energy and feel emotionally drained and physically shattered.

Twelve Essential Yoga Stress-Management Techniques

In the long-run, to fully care for your family and fulfill your responsibilities at work, it is vital you make time during your day to boost your energy and care for yourself. Failure to do so means you run on "empty" and have little to give to yourself, your family and meet your work commitments. To keep your energy levels up, practice the following yoga exercises, massage tips and breathing practices throughout your day.

1. Hum. Humming in high or low pitch is an excellent way to achieve inner calm and clarity. Find a quiet place, sit comfortably. Breathe in and out, through your nose. If you wish, close your eyes. Place your little fingers in your ears. Take a steady deep breath in through your nose. As you breathe out gently "hum." You can hum in either a high pitch or low pitch. Breathe in and repeat this humming pattern for 3 - 5 more rounds. Release your fingers and sit quietly for a few moments.

2. Pretend to chew a large piece of gum, really chew this piece of gum, stretching your mouth and smacking your lips together. Chew for at least 30 seconds.

3. Massage your cheekbones, forehead and temples with your fingers and thumbs. Be aware of the texture of your skin as your gently massage your eyebrows, bridge of your nose and then walk your fingers around your ears and massage your ears.

4. Take deep breaths regularly through out the day. This will help to nourish and revive your spirit

5. Sit on chair, bend forward and hold your ankles or shins. Arch your back, relax and repeat 3 - 5 times

6. Raise both arms above your head. Place your left hand on your right wrist. Gently stretch to the right. Keep your body strong and straight. Breathe into the stretch. Switch sides and repeat.

7. Sitting on a chair, cross your left leg over your right knee. Place your right hand on the crossed knee. Gently turn your body to the left and look behind you. Allow your shoulders to be relaxed as you relax and breathe into the pose. Inhale. Release your arms and legs; return to centre. Exhale. Switch legs and repeat on the opposite side.

8. Have a loving bath. Add four to six drops of bergamot, lavender, ylang ylang, or rose essential oil to your bathwater. These aromatic oils are uplifting and help to refresh your mind.

9. Massage your shoulders. Squeeze the upper back and shoulders between your thumb and forefingers. Massage slowly and rhythmically.

10. Stand or sit in a comfortable position. Breathe in through your nose and shrug your shoulders up to your ears, slowly breathe out as you lower your shoulders. Repeat 5 - 7 times.

11. Smile and laugh often. Share happy thoughts and jokes with others. Laughter instantly elevates your mood and makes your eyes sparkle. You will feel more at ease in yourself and not worry so much about trying to fit in.

12. Sit or stand comfortably, scrunch your face up, like a dried prune. Open your eyes look upwards; open your mouth, stretch out your tongue and Roarrrrrr like a lion. Repeat until you feel powerful, calm and in control.

To help you manage your stress and give your best to your family and others, it is vital you make time to rest and recharge and care and nourish yourself. Make it a habit to regularly do these easy yoga exercises, massage tips and breathing techniques through out your day. You will feel energized, relaxed and raring to go.

Hatha Yoga – Good for healthy breathing

Hatha yoga is the way which has physical health and balance as a main goal, for its practitioners believe that greater mental and spiritual awareness can be brought about with a healthy and pure body.

Hatha yoga mainly concerns itself with asanas or postures. Asanas are contemplative in nature and were originally intuited by yogis during meditation; the Kundalini naturally brings forth these postures or movements, called Kriyas, during deep meditation. These movements help to remove blockages (disease) in the causal, subtle, and physical bodies.

As it has subsequently developed, hatha yoga has concentrated primarily on two of the eight paths, breathing and posture. We breathe roughly 23,000 times per day and use about 4,500 gallons of air, which increases during exercise. Thus, breathing is extremely important to health, and prana, or life-force, is found most abundantly in the air and in the breath. If we are breathing incorrectly, we are hampering our potential for optimal health. Pranayama, literally the "science of breathing" or "control of life force," is the yogic practice of breathing correctly and deeply.

The exercise of Pranayama in hatha yoga is essential to master ones' breathing patterns. If one can master breath, then the mastery of mind is within reach. Through breathing exercises the flow of prana or vital life force through the body is regulated. That energy is certainly needed on the further steps of Hatha Yoga that ultimately may lead to samadhi. Special breathing techniques, in which the flow of breath though both nostrils is alternated, brings balance to the two hemispheres of the brain, which is probably the central objective of Pranayama. Pranayama in hatha yoga also activates the Kundalini Energy.

The main elements of hatha yoga are
1) postures (asana),
2) cleansing practices (dhauti or shodhana),
3) breath control (pranayama),
4) locks (bandha, which temporarily restrict local flows of prana) and
5) hand gestures (mudra), all of which regulate the flow of prana and purify the inner and outer bodies.

The most wonderful part of Hatha Yoga is the ability to receive instant feedback. With an ever changing working surface, “The Body”, one is able to watch the unfolding take place. This may show up as greater flexibility, or the release of energy or life-force “prana”, as well as the intuition of what the body desires next in the form of movement to facilitate either healing or growth.

Practicing physical yoga is not difficult. By definition, asanas are bodily positions that are easy to hold comfortably. Regular practice will help you control your emotions and thus lead a more satisfying life. If you start yoga practice early in your life, it will dramatically reduce your risk of developing cancer, diabetes, heart disease and other serious illnesses. The body readily responds to yoga postures. They are simple and should take only a few minutes a day. The reward, however, much exceeds invested efforts.

Dahn yoga is a form of yoga that involves training the mind and the body and combines deep stretching, meditative breathing and other techniques that include energy awareness training. The objective is to help those who practice yoga to achieve a high level of potential for their personal selves. Dahn yoga was created by Ilchi Lee and is considered to be a highly effective method of exercise for those individuals who are enamored of its effect and its ability to create harmony in the practitioner.
Dahn Hak is the established term for Dahn yoga. When translated, it signifies the study of energy. In the Korean language, Hak signifies the study of a specific theory or philosophy, whereas Dahn signifies the essential, ancient energy which is intrinsic in all life forms. Combined, the term signifies the study of the energy and the system of energy for the goal of individual self development and well-being. The literal translation is a very clear-cut indication of what the ritual is all about, as people are looking to enhance their capacity to control the power of the body and the Spirit.
Through the discipline of the training, people learn to impart the energy with their bodies. The capacity for vigorous activity that exerts from the body stimulates the ability to heal activating the natural power one already has. Staying persistent with the exercise creates the best result in health enjoying the healing power that Dahn yoga embodies. Becoming a master over the body by using a medium of energy called ki, control is gained over the body, making it possible to improve the life and health of the individual with repeated intense exercise over a period of time.
Although physical health isn't the only benefit of this sort of intesense training, the idea behind it is encompassing in the learning of Dahn yoga. Ideally health goes past just simply staying fit and being able to function. It also touches on balance and harmony in the areas of your life that aren't governed by just simple fitness. Certain people who train repeatedly, say that through their efforts their lives improve in many different areas. These areas include: greater confidence in their job, a lot of burdensome emotions released, and a stronger family life. Yoga and Back Pain Part 4

Conclusion

One of the major concerns with acute back pain injuries is the prevention of the injury becoming a long term one, with all the individual, social and healthcare costs that chronic conditions incur. By setting up a programme of regular yoga practice your body will get stronger, more flexible and your immune system will be enhanced. You will feel better as the endorphins kick in.

How much pain do you need to go through before you say "I have had enough of this pain, I am now going to change the way I am doing things to make my life better"? Or you have a "aha" moment when you see the light coming on which makes sense to you and you will change. It is usually the former; we get into our comfort zones (although it may be painful) and are reluctant to change until we have had enough.

The dividends and benefits are numerous, so mush so that care homes and the like have introduced some form of exercise (yoga) to help the elderly. Much research has shown that when the elderly have a fall their recovery is much quicker when practicing yoga. Their quality of life seems to be better as well.

Yoga is a way of exercising your body, healing your body, meditating, relaxing your mind, re-connecting with the universe, and yourself. Yoga is the best thing in the world for aging bodies. Yoga is not about how flexible you are; it is about stretching your body and spine.

A complete science, Yoga is a way of life, an integrated education system that teaches the mind, body and inner spirit to coexist in harmony, originating in India, it's teachings can be traced back to over 5,000 thousand years ago. "Yoga is a way of moving into stillness in order to experience the truth of who you are. In simple terms, however, Yoga is best thought of as a system for improving the holistic well being of an individual.

It is important to note that although it evolved in the Hindu society of India, Yoga is not a religious system and can be practiced without compromising your specific religious beliefs (or indeed without any religious belief whatsoever). Any Yoga is better than no Yoga, and 20 to 30 minutes a day is better than 90 minutes once a week. I believe that yoga is for everyone and it is my goal to pass on the ancient knowledge of yoga to my students, so they can experience the true spirit of yoga and begin to integrate some of this wisdom into their lives.

How To Rest In This Yoga Pose and Mastermind Good Health

What you do on the yoga mat does not stay on the yoga mat! Yoga positions, philosophy, lifestyle and meditations journey with us. Many yoga positions can be transferred to life beyond the yoga mat. We become much more aware of how we stand, sit and the way we move.

Basic yoga poses include resting poses like Shavasana and Child's Pose. There is another basic pose called "Wind Relieving Pose" or Apanasana, basically Child's Pose on your back. If you have a sore knee and cannot rest in Child's Pose, this is an excellent alternative. Lying on your back, hug your knees in towards your chest. If you have a round body and cannot reach your knees, use a strap around your lower legs to hold the knees in place. If your knee is sore to touch, clasp your hands underneath the knee.

To add more movement, leave one knee at the chest, and extend the other leg to the floor. Alternate legs. To strengthen the abdomen, raise the head off the floor and hands as well. If you are recovering from surgery or have weak abdominal muscles, rest the hands palms down on the floor. Always listen to the body's messages.

This yaga pose helps elimination problems, including menstrual cramps. It is a cooling pose. With both legs in towards the chest, hold for 15 minutes or more to release tension in the low back. The pose encourages surrender. As you breathe consciously and rhythmically the diaphragm massages the abdominal and pelvic areas, assisting digestion. Feel this movement in the abdomen. With eyes closed you are drawn deeper within to rest in your own secret world. Even the heart can relax.

Mastermind

When settled comfortably in the pose, with breathing stabilized, you can mastermind a plan for good health. Visualization is easier for some of us. It gets easier with practice. What does good health look like to you? Feel that good health as you hold the pose. Which system of the body is affected? How well do you know the system? If it is unfamiliar, you'll need to research what it looks like in order to visualize it. To be more effective, practice visualizing good health 3 times per day for 15 minutes.

Rest in peaceful surrender in Apanasana, with eyes gently closed. Feel the breath move within your body like a slow wave, rising and falling. Allow the mind and heart to rest in your secret sacred place of healing.

Exercise & Yoga: The Healthier Approach To Stay Away From Infections

The infection in the urinary tract is a common disorder that millions of men and women experience all over the world. There are tons of reasons why people acquire this urinary problem, but one of the most common reasons behind it is poor hygiene and poor immune system.

Fatigue, lethargy, repeated infections, slow wound healing, allergies, thrush, colds and flu are all signs that the body's immune system is functioning below par.

Aside from poor hygiene, an undisciplined lifestyle also contributes to the onset of the disease. Firstly, feelings like too much anger and excessive stress should be controlled as these often give the person physical & emotional distress. When your mind is not at its best, your body soon follows. You have to take care of your mental health, too.

It is crucial that we take care of ourselves. Taking care of yourself in the club or yoga studio starts with taking care of yourself at home. Getting enough rest, eating healthy foods, avoiding excess alcohol or caffeine & stimulants, exercising and practicing meditation and introspection. All will help you maintain health.

Practicing any yoga posture in a relaxing way with slow deep breathing and the intention to let go and relax the nervous system can be very beneficial in decreasing the symptoms of infection.

Relaxing the nervous system has been shown to help direct the immune system to attack the viruses and bacteria.

But a strong immune system can frost the invaders within a few days, preventing more extreme manifestations of the illness and in fact strengthening the immune system. Again, yoga postures done in a relaxed way and slow, deep pranayama can help relax the nervous system and boost the immune response.

Exercise and yoga have been known to help keep your body active and fit. It should be a part of your list if you are one of those people experiencing discomfort due to urinary infections.

While there are millions of medicines that promise better results and relief from pain in the shortest time possible, nothing beats natural remedies and a disciplined lifestyle. Prevention is indeed the better than the cure.

But you need your patience and persistence to change your life around for the better with exercise and yoga. Even with all clubs, gyms and equipments around the final decision is still yours to make.

Only you have the power to make that decision right now. You can still change your life, and your health, and give way to a better and more productive you.

Yoga And Natural Sleep

We know about the wonderful benefits of yoga—relaxation, better circulation, increased energy, and so on. We have heard of people getting up early to practice yoga; hopefully, they are also going to bed early so they’re not cutting their sleep short. That’s because sleep has its own benefits, which are different from the benefits of yoga. Enough sleep and good-quality sleep make possible things that yoga and meditation cannot accomplish, and vice versa.

Deep stages of yoga and meditation provide access to energy and consciousness that sleep alone cannot provide. Yoga can be relaxing, energizing, peaceful, and deeply fulfilling all at the same time. It is a unique daytime experience unlike any other.

Sleep never feels like that. Unless you’re into conscious dreaming and the like, sleep rarely gives you a ‘wow’ experience. First of all, when we fall asleep, we don’t really know its happening. When we wake up, it just feels ordinary, unlike the exhilaration one can feel during yoga or meditation. So, as we do with many of the good things in life, most of us take sleep for granted.

What’s different about sleep? During deeper stages of sleep we secrete growth hormones that promote cell healing. That doesn’t happen during meditation. The body produces a dazzling array of chemicals during sleep that researchers are only beginning to uncover. It seems that the more we learn, the more questions we have.

However, there is one more important similarity between yoga and sleep. In western culture, the practice of yoga has become solely a willful practice. You use your will to practice poses. Among advanced yogis, their practice is more about grace and experiencing the flow of chi or prana (energy) in the body. Falling asleep is similar in one aspect to an advanced yoga practice. You cannot will yourself to sleep. It’s impossible. If you have insomnia, you know what I mean; or you can ask one of your wakeful friends. In order to fall asleep, you have to relax. You have to let go of your conscious mind, or sleep cannot happen.

At Savvy Rest, we think sleep is one of the most beneficial and important daily activities. Our line of organic mattresses and natural mattresses are made from the most natural materials. After all, shouldn’t your sleep be just as relaxing and healthy as any other aspect of your life?
